Increasing Binthi’s Footprint for National Heritage Listing Nomination Meeting/Workshop 1

WHEN: Tuesday 8th of October 2024

TIME: 10.00am – 1.00pm

WHERE: Pioneer Hall, Muni Street, Hope Vale.

Binthi Land Holding Group Aboriginal Corporation is funded by the State of Queensland’s Cape York Heritage Assessment Grant Program to facilitate information meetings and workshops in relation to the Increasing Binthi’s Footprint for National Heritage Listing Nomination project. Binthi Land Holding Group Aboriginal Corporation has reached the milestone for the 2022-2023 Finalised Priority Assessment List and are inviting neighbouring clans to create an agreement for progressing with the updated National Heritage List nomination. This agreement will be based on free, prior and informed consent and developed in line with legal advice. Please mark this date on your calendar to:

  • learn and understand information on the National Heritage Listing process;
  • meet with and ask questions of representatives of the State of Queensland and the Commonwealth; and
  • discuss the next steps in the engagement process for the legal meeting and documenting consent with neighbouring clans for increased footprint to be included in the National Heritage listed area based on Free, Prior and Informed Consent.
  • learn about the recent World Heritage Tentative listing for parts of Cape York Peninsula.

Purpose of this meeting/workshop:

The purpose of this meeting/workshop is for the Guugu Yimithirr Nation clans to decide whether or not they are interested in being included in Binthi’s National Heritage Listing nomination.

Who is invited to attend the meeting?

The meeting is open to all clans of the Guugu Yimithirr Nation.
